Day Ten 01/10/17 "Thirty Paintings in 30 Days"

Today's color for my color chart is Alizarin Crimson (AC) made by Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil  Colour in France.  This is a transparent color in the red family.  The pigment or Color Index (C.I.) is PR83.  It has a value of 2 in the value scale where white is 10.  It has an intensity or chroma of 6 and it is a cool dark color with a blue bias.  It makes beautiful violets when mixed with blues and greens.  Again this is not a good red to make an orange color because of the way it "leans" blue.

The Permanence Rating is A and it is a series 2 color.  This means it is considered permanent and is not that expensive, about $10-15 per small 37ml tube.

This is my second cool red, the other is Permanent Rose (PR).  I could have eliminated one of these, but I just love them both, so I included both in my color charts.

In doing today's charts, I took the Alizarin Crimson (AC)  and placed it by itself in the first top square.  I then tinted it by adding Titanium White for 4 additional values below this top square.
Next, in the second column, I mixed my Alizarin Crimson (AC) with all my other individual colors in  a ratio of 75% Alizarin Crimson (AC) and 25% of the next color, like Magenta (Mag).  I then added white to this mixture for 4 additional values.  I did this with all my 21 colors.

Alizarin Crimson made some gorgeous violets, grays and pinks.  When mixed with Sap Green, it makes a beautiful dark.  You can easily mix warm and cool varieties.  And it makes for some beautiful glazes.  It would be hard to eliminate this color!
