Day Three 01/03/17 "Thirty Paintings in 30 Days"

Today I am working on the color  Cadmium Yellow from Winsor & Newton Artists Oil Colour.  It is made in France. The pigment is PY35, same as yesterday's color Cadmium Lemon. It is expensive,  a Series 4, about $25-30 for a small 37 ounce tube.  This is also an opaque yellow color, but it is a warm color (compared to the Cadmium Lemon). The value of this hue right out of the tube is approximately 8.0 (Using the value scale where 10 is white.)  It too is a high chroma color (or intensity).

Cadmium Yellow has excellent tinting properties, and has a Permanence Rating of A, suggesting it is permanent.

So now I have a warm and cool of the primary color yellow.

So in continuing to work on my Color Charts, I took this Cadmium Yellow (CY) and placed it by itself in the first top square.  I then tinted (added Titanium white) for 4 values below this top square.

Next, in the second column, I mixed my Cadmium Yellow with all my other individual colors in a ratio of 75% Cadmium Yellow and 25% of the next color, like Indian Yellow (IY).  Then I added white to this mixture for 4 additional values.  I did this with all the other 21 colors.  It took two charts!

It is so interesting to see how a warm and cool yellow effect all the other colors when added to them!

This is going to be a valuable experience for me.
